Top 5 Reasons Every Business Needs a Blog

Social Media has opened the doors for businesses to truly interact with their customers on a personal level. Blogs are an essential tool in any social media campaign. Even if you don’t see the benefits of social media right now, you still need a blog. By developing a blog around these 5 ideas, you will notice a stark difference in the way your prospects and existing clients view your company.

1. Establish a Relationship- The greatest change the internet has brought to the business world is the ability to establish relationships with customers outside the store and office.  Previously, you were only able to develop a relationship with your customers when they entered your store or you went to them on a service call. Now you can constantly be building rapport, with both existing and prospective customers through a blog.

2. Communicate- By engaging our customers with valuable content, we are able to communicate on a regular basis. This is one very important concept that many businesses struggle with. I am reminded of a saying I have heard many times, ‘Out of Sight, Out of Mind’. A blog enables us to keep our services and products on the forefront of the customer’s minds.

If you have ever done any sales before, you know that you will never be able to sell anything to anyone until the prospects realize they have a need. Sometimes that need is created by the salesman, but usually it is created on its own. It is usually just a matter of time before the prospect buys from you. Your job is to make your company the first thing that comes to mind when future clients think of the services you offer.

3. Increase Customer Loyalty- By having the ability to communicate on a regular basis with your customers, you instill in them a sense of loyalty. By educating them about their problems and how to make the best decisions, you establish loyalty.

As humans, we develop relationships through interaction. A blog allows us to interact more frequently with our customers and develop better relations with them. When a customer feels like there are real people behind the company logos, they are much more inclined to regularly purchase from you.

4. Marketing- A blog allows you to reach out to your customers with almost no cost. You can announce new services, new product promotions, deals, company awards and achievements, and anything else you think would be important for your blog readers to know.

A blog is the best way to help differentiate yourself from your competitors. You are in complete control of how you educate your customers about your business and industry. Concepts that are commonly misunderstood can be explained in a single blog post. Testimonials can be regular posts. Prospects can get an idea of how your company works. This is crucial in eliminating the uncertainty of dealing with a new business.

You can use it to address common questions or to deliver a strong rebuttal for your most frequent objections. This, in turn, will simplify the sales process. Once you have established your blog and have regular visitors, it can be an excellent marketing resource for your business.

5. Become an Expert in Your field- This is what is called the ‘Light in the Dark’ effect. Just as bugs are attracted to light at nighttime, your prospects will be attracted to your company because you have positioned your company as the expert in the field. This can quickly become your best source for new clients. All you have to do is provide valuable, worthwhile content to your blog readers. Once you teach a prospect something they didn’t know about your industry, they mark you as an expert. Now that you’re labeled as an expert, they will come to you for the services and products your business provides.

Blogs have opened the doors to building friendships with customers. In the past we have been limited in our efforts to interact with customers; but now we are able to take the customer-business relationship to a new level. Keep your mind open to new ideas while focusing on these concepts and your blog will become a primary driver for new business.
